Total Fitness

Total fitness refers to a balance between all areas contributing to our physical health. I’m sure you have heard of “yogi’s”, “gym rats”, or perhaps “cardio queens” these are people who simply practice one aspect of fitness extensively. This can be an easy trap to get into because as you begin to succeed in a specific area it fuels your drive to keep going, and can take up your time and interests. Contrary to this, I am more interested in having a well-rounded fitness level. A good fitness regime prepares your body for coping with the unexpected. There are three core areas of fitness; the Cardiovascular system (lungs, heart, and the blood that makes everything work); Resistance training (works to build muscle, which in turn boosts metabolism and burns fat, as well as increases bone mass to help prevent such things as osteoporosis); and Flexibility (increases joint range of motion and increases our physical functioning while helping to relieve lactic acid and decrease delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)). How do you train in each of these?
